The entire staff was always friendly and polite -- and I'm sure it isn't easy dealing with a new crop of Yanks and Europeans every few days, so they are to be commended.

My name is Daniel Mennill and I have just returned from a very enjoyable trip to Peru, including a six-night stay at Explorers´ Inn. I write to you today to provide you with some comments on my stay at Explorers´ Inn.

I am a professor of ecology and ornithology at the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada. My research focuses on the behaviour and ecology of tropical birds. I have conducted research at a variety of field biology stations and tourist biology stations throughout the neotropics. I was really impressed with what I saw at the Explorers´ Inn. You have done an excellent job at striking a balance between wildlife preservation, ecotourism, and scientific research. At many of the lodges I have visited in the past, ecology takes a back seat to tourism. At the Explorers´ Inn, both ecology and tourism are clearly high priorities. The Resident Naturalists program, the extensive network of walking trails, and the observation blinds which highlight local wildlife were three examples of how tourism and ecology are integrated at the Explorers´ Inn.

The Resident Naturalist program, in particular, is an excellent idea. While my wife and I were staying at the Explorers´ Inn it became clear to us that present and past RNs have taught the hired tourist guides much about the flora and fauna in the forests around the Explorers´ Inn. In addition, the RNs got the tourists excited about nature and science. The Resident Naturalists program really set the Explorers´ Inn apart from all of the other lodges we visited during our trip to Peru.

It was the bird diversity at the Explorers´ Inn that attracted my wife and I to visit your lodge. We were really pleased to see so many birds -- we recorded 172 species during our week-long stay -- but we were also pleased to find a tourist lodge that makes forest preservation and scientific research a priority. I hope that you will continue to be a model ecotourist lodge.

My current research focuses on birds in Costa Rica. However, during the next five years I hope to expand my research program to include studies of the birds in Peru. I hope that the Resident Naturalist program will be ongoing at the Explorers´ Inn. If so, I will encourage future graduate students to consider conducting research through the RN program.

In summary, you have a very impressive ecotourist lodge, Max. I want to congratulate you and express my sincere hope that the Explorers´ Inn will continue in this tradition long into the future.

Really enjoyedf the boat trip, the breeze was nice. I had an awesome trip -once in a life the experience. Would love to come back one day with my children (when i have them). Over all it was an excellent experience. I am visiting the rainforest for the first time and this experience makes me want to come back. To improve experience, i would suggest adding a forest canopy, to facilitate larger animal viewing of the treel tops.

Jungle hike was slow, but it was some of the visitors not the guide. The staff was very helpful when my girlfriend fell ill, which was great. The staff was friendly, it would have been nice if we could have seen more or maybe canoe ourselves but we were only there for 1 day and a half. Booking the flights from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado was very helpful! Long dusty hot ride in small seats, but it was fine. I was amazed how good the boat driver was on the way to the clay lick, there was a significant amount of trees below the surface and he navigated the trip perfectly. The staff couldn?t have been better: Rock, Mario, Carlos and of course our guide. Alan has excellent english + communication skills. Introduced us to plants + uses very interesting, identified all the animals we saw. Obviously from my responses that I had a very positive experience, Allan really made this experience exceptional. All of the staff were incredible. I particularly enjoyed the staff that went on the camping trip. Thank you!

Good driving on a bumpy road. I loved the boat, I wish we could have taken more boat rides. It was nice to get some excercise. Marco even went above and beyond and took us on extra hikes in his spare time so we got as much or as little activity as we wanted. My stay here has been highlight of my trip to South America so far Marco was incredibly knowledgeable and corteous.

You do a great job preparing visitors in advance of the length of bus and boat rides. Jan is extremely cordial and knowledgable. He was readily available and very helpful. Staff were all extremely friendly. Erika is an amazing guide. She is kind, patient, friendly, thoughtful and helpful. Her english is excellent. She is nature beyond her years and was remarkable companion to my two boys, Sam & John during our stay. For this, I will remain forever grateful.

Erika has been an excellent guide, have thoroughly enjoyed her field trips. She knows the area and wildlife very very well! I will highly recommend it to my family and friends! Was great to stop off at local market. Accomodation is gorgeus! Was great having no electricity and hot water, candle light its great! Very well set up. Was a good mix of activities, there were optional activities and rest if you liked. The activity level was highened by the humidity and not being used to it. Have thoroughly enjoyed my trip and all the experiences here.

The bus was a bit crowded but fun none the less, beautiful trip on the river. Good hike that was easy to enjoy, this trip n the rainfores was hot long enough. The guides were fantastic, made the excursion very enjoyed. I would have liked to know ahead of time how muddy the trail was. I would have come more prepared.

Cristian went out of his way to see wildlife. I had a memorable Tambopata experience. He helped me to take a great photos explained so much about the plants and animals .We saw and always made sure I was ok .

Too much food. We would have liked to stay longer but were unable to make the rest of the trip work fro more time.

Cushions were not confortable after first hour. Alejandra was an excellent guide knowledgeable and fun. She explained things well and kept things well and kept things interesting.
