Explorer´s Inn RN Monthly Report: July 2008

TRAILS
Zuzana and Laura replaced trail signs on Swamp, Quebrada and Katicocha.
Sara placed a “No smoking” sign at Cocococha lake and cleaned Capirona.
RESEARCH ASISTANCE
- Jessica, Sara, Zuzana and Laura collected leaf litter for Filio on July 7 and 8
- Laura assisted Lucy Rowland, a student from Oxford University, taking canopy measurements (study associated with the RAINFOR project) on July 9, 14, 15, 18, 19, 22, 26 and with data on July 16
- Laura took additional measurements of walking palms for Jorge Vivanco on July 17
- Zuzana assisted Lucy Rowland on July 9, 10, 13, 16, 17, 19 and 21.
- Zuzana assisted Filio on July 23
- Zuzana assisted Israel and Josh (from Oxford University) on July 26.
- Zuzana and Laura regularly watered plants at PUCP Research Station for Eric Cosio
- Sara helped Lucy Rowland on July 11 and 12.
- Sara helped Filio with his project July 19, 20, 21, 25.
INTERACTION WITH TOURISTS
- Laura assisted guiding a group July 6-7
- Sara helped guide groups on July 4th-6th, 9th-12th.
- Sara acted as a liaison between the tourists and the office during the time the strike was on (July 7th-10th)
LIBRARY
- Zuzana and Laura inventoried the library and found some of the missing books. A list of books that remain missing (11) is in the EI library folder. Sara and Zuzana have been cleaning the Discovery Centre on a regular basis.
MEDICINAL GARDEN
Sara raked (and broomed) the Medicinal Garden. Weeding was not necessary. The Medicinal Garden was regularly visited by guests.
LANGUAGE TRAINING
- Laura gave one English lesson to Washington on July 8
- Zuzana has continued with English-Spanish lessons with Alexis and also helped Filio with his English
OTHER / PERSONAL PROJECTS
- Laura finished her survey on primates around the lodge and produced a report of her findings and a panel display which is now placed in the Discovery Centre
- All RNs have helped out in the dining room and kitchen on busy nights
- Zuzana and Sara continue working on their projects.
MONITORING PROJECTS
Caimans- Cocococha
Caimans at both sides of the Lake Cocococha were monitored on July 25th by Zuzana, Laura and Sofia with the help of Lucy Rowland. Monitoring was done between 18:15 and 21:05. The weather was cool and cloudy. In total 20 caimans were seen.
