Our Bird Watching Peru program includes: Transfer to PS's office to prepare for the river trip and boarding of our motorized dugout canoes. Depending of the hour we will have either a box lunch on the boat or lunch at arrival to the EI. During the trip we may see caymans, turtles and waterfowl. Get prepared for one of the most amazing bird watching experiences in your life!
In addition to our General Services, this tour includes the following:
Day 1
The birdwatching begins on the three-hour river trip to the Explorer’s Inn, during which we may see caymans, turtles and waterfowl. Get ready for one of the most amazing birdwatching experiences of your life. At the lodge we are received with a welcome drink. You are now be deep inside primary rainforest, surrounded by its sights and sounds. After a short rest we take a brief hike to a small lagoon, returning in time to enjoy the jungle nightfall at Sunset Point. At the lodge we observe caymans from a canoe. Over dinner at the lodge, we talk with our Resident Naturalists (RNs) and guides about the Amazon rainforest. There is no birdwatching at night, but the fowl and other animals give us a wonderful concert.
Day 2
After an early breakfast, we hike three-and-a-half miles to Cocococha oxbow lake. On the way we observe birds as well as plants, insects, butterflies, monkeys and possibly, if we are lucky, larger mammals. At the lake we hide and begin to observe the wild birds. Canoes are also available to move around the lake to better view the giant river otters and other wildlife on the shoreline. Back at the lodge we have a late lunch and in the afternoon you can either rest or visit our new 40 meters high canopy tower. The rest of the afternoon and evening are free for unguided activities.
Day 3
Free day to explore our 40+ kilometers of trails where a world record of 600 species of birds was established by people like Ted Parker III, Thomas Schulenberg, John O'Neill and others. You will also have free access to our 40 meters high canopy tower. If you wish you can ask for a box lunch the night before so that you can stay out and skip lunch. It is very important that you inform someone in charge of which trails you plan to use during the day.
